Mo Ganji’s single line lingers with the Katta lemur — a medium-sized primate of Madagascar’s dry forests and open scrublands, known for its upright posture and social presence — by allowing its inner balance to surface without emphasis on pattern or behavior. The continuous line holds a distilled core of being, enough to suggest presence while remaining open to meanings beyond the familiar image of a lemur. In this exposure of essence, form appears before recognition settles into certainty.

Lemur catta is listed as Endangered (EN) on the IUCN Red List. Endemic to southern Madagascar, the species inhabits a range of dry forest and spiny scrub habitats that have been severely reduced and fragmented. Once among the most abundant lemur species, its population has declined sharply over recent decades.

The principal threats include widespread deforestation driven by slash-and-burn agriculture, charcoal production, and habitat conversion, as well as hunting and illegal pet trade. Fragmentation isolates groups and disrupts social structures, while climate variability further stresses already fragile ecosystems. Despite its familiarity in human perception, the species faces a precarious future in the wild.
