In a single, unbroken line, Mo Ganji sketches the Amur leopard — one of the rarest big cats on Earth. The reduced form reflects his core philosophy: to reveal essence by stripping away the unnecessary. In this minimal gesture, the leopard’s tension, precision and solitary presence emerge clearly, as if the line itself were tracing the fragile path the species walks in the wild.
Panthera pardus orientalis survives today only in a tiny area along the Russian–Chinese border. The Amur leopard is listed as Critically Endangered (CR) on the IUCN Red List, with estimates of fewer than 120 individuals remaining in the wild. Its main threats include habitat loss through logging and fires, depletion of prey species, poaching (both direct and through snaring), and the risks of inbreeding within such a small population.
Ganji’s continuous line mirrors the animal’s precarious continuity: a species reduced to the thinnest margin of survival, yet still moving with grace through forests of snow and shadow. The artwork invites viewers to see not only the leopard’s elegance but the urgency of its protection — a reminder that even the most powerful beings can exist on the edge, held together by a line as fine and fragile as ink on paper.
