Mo Ganji’s single line engages the giant panda — a large, bamboo-specialized mammal inhabiting temperate mountain forests of central China — by allowing its inner coherence to surface without emphasis on symbolism, familiarity or cultural projection. Ailuropoda melanoleuca is listed as Vulnerable (VU) on the IUCN Red List.
