Mo Ganji’s single line engages the Néhoué striped gecko — a small terrestrial gecko inhabiting forest floor and low vegetation in New Caledonia — by allowing its essential core to surface without emphasis on pattern, coloration or concealment. The continuous line gathers a distilled presence, enough to suggest life while remaining open to meanings beyond the category of “gecko.” In this unveiling of essence, form appears before visibility or distinction defines it.

Dierogekko nehoueensis is listed as Endangered (EN) on the IUCN Red List. Endemic to a limited area in southern New Caledonia, the species occupies fragmented habitats within a region characterized by high levels of endemism and ecological sensitivity. Its known distribution is restricted, and population sizes are believed to be small.

The principal threats include habitat loss and degradation due to mining activities, deforestation, wildfires and the spread of invasive species. Because the gecko depends on stable microhabitats close to the ground, even localized disturbances can eliminate suitable conditions. Its limited range further heightens vulnerability to environmental change.
