Mo Ganji’s single line describes the Darwin’s fox — a small, forest-dwelling canid with a compact build and dark coat — as a restrained gesture that reduces form to a quiet presence. The continuous line suggests a being that may be recognised as fox, yet remains open enough to loosen the grip of that designation. By leaving out the non-essential, the drawing allows essence to appear before definition asserts itself.

Lycalopex fulvipes is listed as Endangered (EN) on the IUCN Red List. Endemic to southern Chile, the species survives mainly on Chiloé Island and in a few fragmented mainland forests. Its total population is small, and suitable habitat is limited to temperate rainforests that have been heavily altered over time.

The principal threats include habitat loss from logging and agricultural expansion, fragmentation of forest landscapes, disease transmission from domestic dogs, and direct persecution. Because remaining populations are isolated, even localized disturbances can have significant effects on long-term viability.
