Mo Ganji’s single line approaches the Bawean deer through a focused portrait: a reduced, continuous contour that captures the quiet presence of the animal’s head and facial structure. Axis kuhlii is endemic to Bawean Island in Indonesia and is listed as Endangered (EN) on the IUCN Red List. With only a few hundred individuals remaining, the species occupies a very narrow range of forest and scrub habitat. Its restricted distribution makes it particularly vulnerable to habitat loss, human disturbance, competition with livestock, and predation by feral dogs.
