Mo Ganji turns toward Thongaree’s disc-nosed bat — a small insectivorous bat inhabiting limestone forests and caves — by letting the single line move toward essence rather than adaptation or strangeness. The line condenses the being into a reduced coherence, setting aside anatomical peculiarity, flight and nocturnal behavior so that presence can surface without explanation. In Ganji’s understanding, the line is not bound to the bat alone; it remains open, reminding us that every form is also a human concept provisionally fixed to a living reality.

Eudiscoderma thongareeae is listed as Endangered (EN) on the IUCN Red List. The species is known from a very limited number of localities in Thailand and Myanmar and appears to occur at low densities. Its reliance on specific limestone karst habitats makes its distribution naturally restricted and highly fragmented.

The principal threats include quarrying of limestone formations, deforestation around cave systems, disturbance of roosting sites, and habitat degradation. Because disc-nosed bats depend on intact cave environments and surrounding forest for foraging, disruption of either element undermines survival. Limited data on population size and ecology further complicate conservation planning.

Ganji’s single line opens a space in which the bat can be encountered beyond peculiarity or concealment.
