Mo Ganji’s single line dwells with the Knuckles pygmy lizard — a small, arboreal reptile adapted to the cool, misty montane forests of Sri Lanka — by allowing its inner tension and balance to surface without descriptive insistence. The continuous line holds a condensed core of presence, enough to suggest a living being while remaining open to meanings beyond the category of “lizard.” In this quiet unveiling of the essential, form appears before detail or rarity defines it.

Cophotis dumbara is listed as Endangered (EN) on the IUCN Red List. Endemic to the Knuckles Mountain Range, the species inhabits cloud forest habitats characterized by high humidity and stable microclimates. Its known range is extremely limited, and populations are confined to a small number of fragmented forest patches.

The principal threats include habitat loss and degradation from deforestation, agricultural encroachment and climate change, which alters temperature and moisture regimes critical to the species’ survival. Because the lizard depends on very specific environmental conditions and has limited dispersal ability, even minor ecological shifts can have severe consequences. Ongoing fragmentation further isolates remaining populations.
